Santo Nicholas Students Bring Home International Gold in Mathematics Olympiads

Santo Nicholas School is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our primary students, Geraldine Caitriona Saimen (Grade 3) and Hayley Alessia Saimen (Grade 1), who have brought great honor to our school and our country in international Mathematics Olympiads.

Through their dedication, perseverance, and love for learning, Geraldine and Hayley have secured multiple gold medals, proving that excellence knows no age. These two sisters, daughters of Mr. Ekko Saimen and Mrs. Rosa Baretta have demonstrated a remarkable passion for mathematics from a young age. Their accomplishments highlight the strong spirit of curiosity and resilience we nurture at Santo Nicholas School.

Geraldine and Hayley recently won gold medals at the prestigious Hongkong International Mathematics Olympiad (HKIMO) 2025. Their success extends beyond HKIMO; these two young math prodigies have also secured multiple gold medals in other international competitions, including:

• South East Asia Math Olympiad (SEAMO)

• International Junior Math Olympiad (IJMO)

• World Mathematics Invitational (WMI)

• Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO), where they also achieved the country's No. 1 ranking.

In recognition of their success, both students and their families were invited by the Mayor of Medan, on 27 August 2025 who warmly congratulated them and acknowledged the important role of family and school in supporting their growth.

Their incredible accomplishments were recently recognized by the Mayor of Medan, Rico Waas, who met with the students and their parents to personally congratulate them. The Mayor expressed his deep appreciation, stating, "On behalf of the Medan City Government, I congratulate and thank our children who have brought home this proud achievement. You have become an example for the young generation of Medan to continue to strive, be disciplined, and achieve."

We extend our warmest congratulations to Geraldine and Hayley on their extraordinary success. Their achievements are an inspiration to all of us and a shining example of excellence in education.
